The Bilwis: Grain Spirit
A pan-tribal spirit of the harvest, most revered in farming valleys. The Bilwis appears as a thin humanlike figure with birdlike features: sometimes a scarecrow woven from straw, sometimes a tall stork striding through the fields.
The Bilwis blesses crops with dew, health, and abundance if honored with bread, milk, or the burning of the Bilwis-doll made from the final sheaf of harvest.
If neglected, the spirit turns malevolent: infestation, summoning flocks to devour grain, or shaping strange patterns in the field.
The Bilwis embodies the ancient pact between humankind and the soil: honor brings life; neglect brings famine.
